Effect of pentachlorophenol on hepatic glycogen metabolism in rats.

چکیده
Pentachlorophenol (PCP) is widely used as a biocide, although, its usage is limited to restricted regions in Japan because of its strong toxicity to fishes. With regard to the biochemical aspects of PCP toxicity, Weinbach1) found that PCP inhibited oxidative phosphorylation in vitro and postulated that the inhibition was at least partly responsible for the toxic effects of PCP. Since then, biochemical interest has been focused on this uncoupling action of

THE EFFECT OF SULFUR MUSTARD ON GLUCOSE PHOSPHORYLATING ENZYMES AND LIVER CELLS IN MALE RATS
A significant decrease of hepatic high-Km glucose- phosphorylating enzyme glucokinase (ATP- D- glucose 6- phosphotransferase, EC 2.7. 1.2, GK) and low-Km hexokinases (EC 2.7. 1.1. HK) activities were noticed in liver treated with 2, 2'- dichlorodiethyl sulfide (sulfur mustard, HD) when injectedinteraperitoneally to male rats in 114 LD50. This decrease occurred 1.5 to 5.5 hours after the in...
متن کاملEffect of essential oil of the wild Satureja khuzestanica Jamzad on activity and gene expression of some hepatic glycoregulatory enzymes in normal and diabetic rats
Background: The effect of the wild SKEO on activities and genes expression of hepatic glucokinase (GK), glycogen phosphorylase (GP) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) in normal and diabetic rats was evaluated. Materials and Methods: The wild SKEO was orally administered at dose (100 mg/kg per day) to normal, as well as diabetic rats for 21 days. The levels of mRNA were determined usi...
متن کاملD-pinitol attenuates the impaired activities of hepatic key enzymes in carbohydrate metabolism of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.
During diabetes mellitus, endogenous hepatic glucose production is increased as a result of impaired activities of the key enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism, which leads to the condition known as hyperglycemia. D-pinitol, a bioactive constituent isolated from soybeans, has been shown to reduce hyperglycemia in experimental diabetes. We therefore designed this study to investigate the effect of...
متن کاملCHANGES IN BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM FOLLOWING FENFLURAMINE ADMINIS TRATION IN RATS
Fenfluramine, an anorexigenic agent, is widely used in the treatment of obesity. Besides its anorectic effect, it may also have some effects on general metabolism with the consequence of weight loss. In this study, the effect of fenfluramine on the concentrations of some parameters related to carbohydrate metabolism was investigated. It was shown that the serum insulin level was reduced by ...
متن کاملModulatory effects of naringin on hepatic key enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism in high fat diet fed-low dose of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
We evaluated the modulatory effects of naringin on altered hepatic key enzymes of carbohydrate metabolism in high fat diet fedlow dose of streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Oral treatment of naringin at a doses of 20, 40 and 80 mg/kg body weight to diabetic rats for 30 days resulted in a significant reduction in the levels of plasma glucose, blood glycosylated hemoglobin and increase in the ...
